A Shoutout To AMD – Job Well Done On Llano

I am absolutely loving my new llano laptop. The desktop feel is very smooth and quick, quicker than most laptops I have used recently.

Picked up an HP g6 for $399 CAD
A6-3400 APU w/ 6520G
6GB Ram

All I can say is wow, I’m blown away at the price performance this thing has. I originally bought this for university, but it is powerful enough to play a lot of games. The 6520G is nothing to laugh at. Starcraft 2/WoW runs very smooth, at medium settings. I am soon to test out some L4D.

*Claps* AMD has a big winner with this platform.

I picked up the last one at my local futureshop, after learning that these bad boys are selling like hotcakes all over the city.

And if you’re wondering, yes I found out how to overclock the CPU in this thing :) A little bit of messing around with power states on k10stat. Although running at 3GHz won’t be practical for battery life. Nor would it be useful for microsoft word.

Soon to come, pictures and review.

Hi, I just got my g6 at BestBuy for $430–you got a great deal since mine was already $100 off! I’m pretty new with this stuff. At the moment, under the computer settings, the processor is described as AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.40 Ghz. I was hoping to overclock this thing up to its advertised specs of 2.3 GHz. Would you please be able to make a post on how you overclocked it, or sent me an e-mail? I’d really appreciate it. My e-mail’s jmyim@hotmail.com

    Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,

Your first step would be updating the BIOS, as well as all the drivers as provided on the HP website.
You should only be seeing 2.3GHz when your PC is under a heavy load and needs a boost. You will not see these speeds on battery.

To permanently run at these speeds, you need to use an application called K10STAT. It allows you to adjust speeds, voltages, and boost profiles

    Cheers

    Hey guys,
I, myself, have a HP AMD Quad-Core A6-3400M Laptop, which base speed is 1.4GHz and max of 2.3GH. I have a gadget on my desktop showing me the current processor speed and the temp of the core, as well as the usage of each core. The max i’ve seen the processor go at is 1.4 GHz. i have yet to see it reach its max though,.
I’ve done my fair amount of research about amd a6-3400 and overclocking and found out that it’s better to use the BIOS, rather than k10stat for overclocking?
I’m thinking of overclocking the laptop to maybe around 2.4, 2.5? but i still need to read about voltage, and temp for the laptop.
*side note, i posted a comment on a futureshop forum asking about this, and one of the representatives had said that amd is already fast and turbo goes on automatically. but i’d like to keep it at a higher base.

could either one of you or both email me at jesse_baller93@hotmail.com where you can tell me the best way to overclock/undervolt my laptop, please?
