Samsung SyncMaster S24B300 LED LCD

I just wanted to do a quick review of my brand new monitor: The Samsung SyncMaster S24B300 LED LCD

This 24″ LED LCD monitor is beautiful….really, it looks great. Here are the specs it is packing (From Samsung Site):

  • 23.6″ (16 : 9) Screen Size
  • LED Type
  • 250 cd/m² Brightness
  • Mega ∞ DCR (Static 1000 : 1) Contrast Ratio
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • 5 ms Response Time
  • 170° / 160° Viewing Angle (Horizontal / Vertical)
  • 16.7 M Color Support
  • 1 HDMI & 1 D-Sub VGA

Here are a few sample pictures taken from my Galaxy Nexus. I also tossed in a few full screenshots of Diablo 3. These are not the best representation of the monitor, as you cannot see it up close for yourself….but this is easily the best monitor I have ever used.

The colours are very vibrant compared to other monitors. Images are sharp, and games and movies look amazing. It truly was a treat loading up a 1080P movie and watching it fullscreen. I don’t think I can ever watch any media less then 1080P HD ever again. The power and menu buttons on the bottom right of the bezel are touch which was nice. Keep in mind that I used to be on an old Dell 19″ 1280*1024 monitor, which I used for almost 4 years ( sad I know).

The only cons are the non-standard power connector (which shouldn’t be a problem unless you happen to lose the power cord) and the fact that the inputs have two options: HDMI, or VGA. There is no DVI or displayport on this monitor. I don’t see this as much of a downside since I had an HDMI cord laying around I could spare.

All in all if you are in the market, this is a wonderful monitor at a decent price. I paid $189 CAD for mine. If anyone has any questions about the monitor, or wants to see more/better pictures, just drop a comment :)

    • Good to hear. Done any gaming on it yet? I’ve only had a chance to do Diablo as I am busy lately. Wondering what the experience is like with other games

      • Ya, I have been playing Modern Warfare 3. It has great quality and response time. How is Diablo?

  1. Mine has trouble recognizing HDMI is connected. Do you have to use the CD that came with it cause it wants me to select a model type but i cant find it. help!

  2. Hi, Im having some issues with this monitor. My screen resolution is set to 1920×1080, but my desktop is not fully displayed on the screen. when I bring down the resolution to 1600×900, then my desktop is displayed full on the screen. However, this is not the recommended settings I believe. I have a MSI R5450 graphics card installed in my desktop and I have hooked up the monitor with HDMI cable. Can you tell me what resolution settings I need to be on? Thanks.

    • You have to go into the Catalyst Control Center and change a setting called Underscan/Overscan in the Digital Flat Panel Scaling settings. That should fix the issue.

      • This blokes a genius, the problem had been doing my head in for the last 2 days. i bought 2 of these monitirs and was about to send therm back… Thanks again champ…

  3. Thank you, I did what you just mentioned yesterday by callilng the customer service rep. of my graphic card. Your respone was very accurate and fast.

  4. Im having the same problem as LahorMundha but with an Intel embeded graphics and it wont fill the screen

  5. Having a difficult time setting up correct contrast on this monitor. Cannot read any black printing on gray background. Blank white screen area appears off white. Comparing right next to a Samsung EX2220. When i received this, purchased new from a retail store, someone had already returned (power cord was unwrapped and bag was open). I am thinking last person had this same problem and returned it. Problem is, my return period (30 days) has expired.
Tried the magic angles and magic bright.

  6. Great monitor, great price. Tried to download the specific Samsung driver but don’t know which one as only a driver for S24B300HL is available. Can I use it for the S24B300 as well? Don’t have the original CD anymore …..

      • i too am having audio problems (and i know it’s not a tv),
installed the monitor friday and for some reason the audio out from the tower no longer sends a signal to my external sound system, but instead routes the audio to the very cheezy speakers in the monitor.
is it a settings issue? i miss my sound!

      • ignore my question
it was a setup problem — 100% operator error. the value of basic troubleshooting cannot be overemphasized
the monitor is beautiful and works like a charm life is good!

  7. Nice quick review! I just bought one of these to get a bigger screen to add to my 13 inch MacBook Pro. So far it looks pretty awesome on my desk and the stand is sturdy. I haven’t plugged it in yet to my computer yet, though, as I’m still waiting for the right cables from Amazon.

  8. I have this monitor as well (I actually bought two of them for dual display) and it is a great display; I am very pleased with it. My only real complaint is that there is no tilting, but that’s not a big deal.

    Good review though. Cheers.

    • Turns out I’m just dumb and these do in fact have the ability to tilt, so I have no complaints.
In my defence I’ve only had these for a few weeks and just never tried to tilt them and assumed they couldn’t because they don’t look like they can. :)

  9. I Payed $50 Less At Costco, Needes A Mini Dvi To Hdml Convert, $6.95 At Amazon, Also Wish It Had A Remote. It Is As Good As Apple’s $1000.00 Cinema Display (Tim Cook Get Real), Apple Wants $150 For A New 90 Watt Adapter, Do The Math. I Use It With My Macbook, Snow Leopard, Ss Hard Drive, Max Ram, Fixed Too Many Pc’s, I Do Photography, Not A Gamer So Samsung Came Through…Again! Very nice blog.

  10. Hi,
I have tried to look this up everywhere, but because I’m a video editor (working with Avid) I am finding trouble adjusting the contrast and brightness on both samsung monitors. it is connected to my mac mini, the materials are HD, but don’t look that way, any tips for best settings?
    thank you

  11. I accidently hit some button and my brightness dimmed. I go to the menu and the brightness is grayed out. How do I get my brightness back. I only know about the menu on the monitor itself. Is there somewhere else to make changes?

  12. Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and
wanted to say that I’ve truly enjoyed browsing your blog posts.
After all I will be subscribing to your rss feed and I hope you
    write again very soon!

  13. This design is incredible! You obviously know
how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Excellent job.
I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
    Too cool!

  14. Hello terrific blog! Does running a blog such as this
require a large amount of work? I’ve absolutely no understanding of programming but I had
been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyways, if you have any recommendations or techniques for new
blog owners please share. I understand this is off topic nevertheless I just had
    to ask. Cheers!
